     This small family owned business started in the 1800's as Gohn's

Department Store. It was owned by JC Gohn, George Gohn and his

sons. In 1904 two of the sons took over and the name became Gohn

Bros. Arthur and Charles focused on clothing, tailoring men's suits and

fabrics. They began to manufacture plain clothing for the Amish along

with their fine tailoring. From 1947 to 1984 Arthurs' son Lamar owned

and operated Gohns'. The mail order business took off and was reaching

 most of the 50 states.  Lamar sold Gohns' to his daughter Monica and

son-in-law John Swartzentruber in 1984 who have been operating the

business to the present day.

 

      For over 100 years and four generations Gohn Bros. has been

sewing on site Amish broadfall pants, coats, and vests. We have added

an old fashioned shirt.  Items we continue to sell are fabrics & notions,

quilting supplies, needlework, plain clothing, shoes & boots, underwear

& socks, hats & gloves, wool blankets, and lots more.  We try to meet

the needs of our customers and community.

 

 

      You can call and request our mail order catalog or you are welcome to come visit our store.  We are located on Main Street in the small town of Middlebury, IN.  The original building, tin ceiling and squeaky wood floors are over 100 years old, too. Gohn Bros. is an old fashioned dry goods store, but also an up-to-date department store.  It is a unique shopping experience!
